We have worked with the Town of Tonawanda Parks and Recreation Department for many years. In fact, we both grew up in the town. Back in 2024, they approached us to design a barrier-free free inclusive playground for one of their largest parks, Kenney Park. This design features two points of entry and several pieces that can accommodate individuals in wheelchairs and/or those with mobility differences. It is essential to also factor in the climbing/sensory needs of children with autism, as well as the needs of those individuals with gross motor issues in these play environments. That is how to make a playground inclusive for all. Having raised a child with special needs, we have always approached our playground designs with consideration not just for the letter of the ADA laws, but with the spirit of these laws in mind as well.
We worked with the Town of Tonawanda Parks Department for several years, designing this 7000 sq foot splash park. It features a total recirculation system with 4 slides and areas for the toddlers, smaller kids, and teens. Fun for the whole family, with LED lights for family night at the park! This will be the largest splash park in Erie County. The concrete surfacing makes it barrier-free for kids and adults of all abilities.
"In my seven plus years with the Town of Tonawanda as the Superintendent of Parks & Recreation it has been an absolute pleasure for my team and I to work with Denise & Joe in the Design & Installation process of several of the playgrounds & parks that we have throughout the Town of Tonawanda of which was most recently highlighted by the Towns newly constructed “Inclusive Playground Setting” at our Kenney Park (summer of 2024) along with our newly designed and completed construction (opening Spring of 2025) being our “State of the Art Inclusive Water Attraction-The Paddock Chevrolet Splash Park” located in the Towns Paddock Park. Their attention to detail and hands on approach throughout the design, construction process along with the warranty end of the equipment is what separates them from their competition."
