The replacement of the Splash Pad at Pineway Ponds Park in the Town of Ogden is officially underway. The new Splash Pad will be an inclusive space designed for toddlers, children, and families to enjoy time together outdoors. It will be in the same area as the original, covering 4,300 square feet and featuring 22 spray elements, highlighted by a large dumping bucket.
“After many months of designing and planning, we are thrilled to begin work on the new Splash Pad at Pineway Ponds Park,” said Ogden Parks and Recreation Director Andrea Hansen. “We look forward to unveiling the completed project to our community and watching families enjoy the updated space and features.”
Since its opening in 2008, Ogden’s original Splash Pad has been a beloved attraction, bringing joy and laughter to children and families from Ogden and beyond. However, over the past few years, it became clear that the Splash Pad needed to be replaced, as its aging features were deteriorating, and irreparable damage was becoming increasingly frequent and apparent.
“While it’s bittersweet to have seen it close for the final time last fall, we knew exciting things were ahead for this space,” said Ogden Town Supervisor Mike Zale. “Since then, we’ve been working diligently at the town level to create a new Splash Pad design that will build on everything the community loved about the old one, while offering an even better experience for all.”
Thanks to careful planning by the Town, the entire replacement project is being funded through a combination of town savings, ARPA funds, a New York State grant, and a generous donation of labor.
Demolition of the old pad and construction of essential drainage and piping elements are currently in progress, with installation of the new Splash Pad set to follow. During this time, the area will be fenced off from the public. It is anticipated that the new pad will officially open in June 2025.
“I’m incredibly grateful to all the staff at Town Hall for dedicating their time and effort to planning the installation of a new, state-of-the-art Splash Pad, and I’m truly looking forward to celebrating its grand opening with the entire community in June,” concluded Zale.
Stay tuned for more updates on the installation, the grand opening event, and details about the rules for use of the new Splash Pad.
