While we are proud of all of our playground projects, we have especially fond memories of this inclusive playground project that we completed back in 2019 for the Rochester Rotary Sunshine campground in Rush, New York.
This sprawling campground is the site of a sleepaway camp for children with disabilities. If you have ever seen the movie The Parent Trap, you would think that it was filmed right here. We used a combination of leaf roofs and wood look roofs to make sure that the playground resembled a treehouse and complemented the wood cabins and trees that make up this beautiful camp. The playground features a center tower, several slides, nature-themed climbers, the Miracle inclusive glider and whirl as well as many interactive sensory play panels as requested by the therapists that we worked with to design the play area. There were, and continue to be, many happy campers using this playground. We were thrilled to play a part in this project. As parents of a child with special needs, we have had a front row seat to the impact that an inclusive playground can have on a child, their peers, and a community. We were truly honored to play a role here.
"Sunshine Camp hired Miracle Recreation Equipment Company to expand our inclusivity by adding an accessible playground, known as Shirley’s Playland. This playground is designed to cater to children with disabilities, providing them with a variety of fun and engaging activities. Features such as a slide and glider, spinner, gravity cube, climbers, chin-up bars, ball toss, towers, a sign language panel, and a sight and sound panel make it a truly inclusive space.
The addition of Shirley’s Playland has greatly enhanced the campers' experience at Sunshine Camp. It allows children with special needs to participate in play activities alongside their peers, fostering a sense of belonging and community. The camp's continued commitment to creating an inclusive environment for over 103 years.
In conclusion, Miracle Playground Equipment and Sunshine Camp's accessible playground are excellent examples of how thoughtful design and a commitment to inclusivity can create safe, fun, and engaging play spaces for all children. Their efforts ensure that every child, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy the benefits of outdoor play and social interaction."
